In the summer of 2013 a tea sapling nursery was built using the savings of cooperative members. 90,000 saplings were planted in a field previously full of brambles and weeds. A roof of tarpaulin was erected as shade and as protection from monsoon rain. In two years these saplings will be strong enough to be replanted in the tea gardens.
Profits from initial sales, combined with a charitable contribution of 300 Francs from one of our Swiss tea buyers, mean that the levy for these saplings can be waived for the poorest farmers and training provided on how best to plant, protect in winter and harvest the crops in autumn.
